HC reserves orders on pleas against AICTE notification

Chennai, Apr 25 (UNI) Madras High Court today reserved orders on petitions challenging directions of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), especially that all institutions including Deemed Universities (DU) should get its approval for starting a new course.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Ms Justice Prabha Sridevan reserved orders on a batch of petitions from DUs and Public Interest Litigations filed by students, after hearing elaborate arguments from both sides.

Stating that the AICTE notification dated February 16, 2006 had already been stayed, the bench passed an interim order that pending decision on the petitions, students were advised to resume attending classes so that they could write examinations. Failure to do so would result in their losing an academic year. AICTE was directed to issue this order as a notice in English and vernacular newspapers.
