Give 'rest' to Jaya to uphold democracy: MK urges people
Chennai, Apr 25 (UNI) DMK President M Karunanidhi today exhorted the people of Tamil Nadu to give ''rest'' to AIADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to uphold democracy in the State.
Addressing an election meeting of the DPA in the presence of AICC President Sonia Gandhi at the island grounds here he described the May eight Assembly polls as a battle between ''autocracy'' and ''Demcoracy'' and urged the people to chose what they want.
Stating that a Chief Minister should be a role model and set an example for others to follow, Mr Karunanidhi alleged that Ms Jayalalithaa had not qualified herself to hold the post of the Chief Minister, especially after she was censured by the Judiciary.
He recalled the strictures passed against her by the Supreme Court in the cases filed by the Income-Tax for not filing returns since 1993-94, in the TANSI land deal case and more recently in the case relating to the stampede incident at a flood relief distribution centre at Chennai in which more than 50 people were killed.
''If she had wasted a piece of paper and few drops of ink and resigned from the post of Chief Minister after she was censured by the Supreme court, especially in the Stampede case, she would have found a place in history'', he added.
