Geelani, Shabir Shah freed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 25 : Breakaway Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Chief Shabir Ahmed Shah, who were put under house arrest since Saturday morning, have been freed by the authorities today, sources said.

The two senior separatist leaders were put under house arrest on April 22 to prevent them from addressing anti-election meetings in three Assembly constituencies of Pattan, Sangrama and Rafiabad in north Kashmir's Baramulla district where by-elections were held yesterday.

The sources said the police personnel, deployed outside the residences of the two separatist leaders, were asked to leave the area to enable Mr Geelani and Mr Shah to move freely.
