Court asks Assam Rifles to produce five youths

Imphal, Apr 25 (UNI) Gauhati High court has asked Assam Rifles to produce five youths, who were allegedly arrested by the AR, before the Magistrate or to the nearest police station.

A two-man bench comprising Justice D Biswas and Justice T N K Singh ordered the production of the five youths following a hearing of a habeas corpus case yesterday. The notice returnable by May two, the court order said.

The Assam Rifles had organised a surrender ceremony on March 13 and allegedly held these five youths in its custody.

The habeas corpus case was filed by one M Rakesh of the Human Rights Law Network and others after the five youths went missing.

The petitioners alleged that these youths had surrendered after being assured of job by the AR.

However, AR denied the allegation that they arrested the youths.
