Army promotes Havaldar for winning two gold medals at Games

Hamirpur, Apr 25 (UNI) Havaldar Vijay Kumar who had won two gold medals for the country in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games has been promoted as Naib Subedar, family sources said today.

Army Chief Gen J J Singh had recently honoured Kumar at a simple ceremony at New Delhi for his impressive show in shooting disciplines at the Games.

The sources said there was jubilation at Kumar's house after his promotion a few days ago.

Kumar belongs to Harsaur village of Hamirpur district and had joined the Indian Army only four years ago.

The Himachal Pradesh Government had also announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh to him for winning the medals.
