All-India CPI (UNME) up by 2 points to 463 in March

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) The All-India Consumer Price Index for Urban Non-Manual Employees CPI (UNME) for March 2006 has risen to 463, up two points over February 2006.

The figures were released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, today together with the indices for 59 selected urban centres in India.

According to the ministry, the largest increase was noted in Imphal and the least in Rajkot centre.

At the group level, the index for March 2006 when compared to the previous month rose by 0.46 per cent in respect of "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" group, followed by 0.24 per cent for "Clothing, Bedding and Foot-wear" group.

The index showed a five per cent rise when compared with the corresponding all-India index for March 2005.

The increase was between 1.0 and 4.0 per cent in 18 centres, 4.1 to 5.0 per cent in 7 centres, 5.1 to 7.0 per cent for 25 centres and 7.1 per cent and above, in 9 centres.

As many as 25 centres have lower annual percentage increase as compared to that of the all-India figure of 5.0 per cent and 34 centres have recorded higher percentage increase compared to the all-India average, an official release here said.
