Scores of people rendered homeless in Dhapa landslide
Kolkata, Apr 24 (UNI) Scores of people were rendered homless at Dhapa on the E M Bypass on the outskirts of the city after landslides damaged many houses and roads since yesterday.
The city's solid waste is dumped in Dhapa.
Local people complained that landslides, triggered by excessive dumping of garbage, led to drying up of a pond. It also damaged many houses forcing the occupants to desert the place.
However, no specific reason was known immediately.
Kolkata Corporation Mayor Bikash Bhattacharjee said an expert committee would be set up in a couple of days to probe the cause of the slides.
