Robbers loot petrol pump of Rs 26.75 lakh

Vadodara, Apr 24 (UNI) In a day-light robbery, armed miscreants looted Rs 26.75 lakh in cash from a Reliance-owned petrol pump on the outskirts of Ankleswar city, about 90 km from here, today.

According to Bharuch DSP G S Malik, the staff of the petrol pump located at Kim, were allegedly robbed at gun point near Piramal village when they were on their way to Ankleswar city to deposit the cash in an SBI branch.

Mr Malik said the armed miscreants, numbering around five to seven, arrived in a car and intercepted the Reliance staff car after overtaking it near Piramal village. After breaking all glass panes of the staff vehicle, the miscreants, armed with a country-made revolver and other weapons, snatched the bag containing the cash and fled in their own vehicle towards Surat.

The petrol pump staff was reportedly carrying the cash without any armed guard.

Mr Malik said several such incidents of loot have been reported in the recent past following which the police had issued a circular, meant for all business houses and banks, advising them to take necessary armed guards while carrying over Rs five lakh in cash.
