Railways convenes meeting over Gonda incident on Apr 27
Lucknow, Apr 24 (UNI) Taking serious note of GRP personnel assaulting railway officials and RPF sleuths in Gonda recently, the Indian Railways has convened a high-level meeting here on April 27 to discuss the issue with the Uttar Pradesh government and the GRP.
Informing this to mediapersons here, Northern Railway, Lucknow Divisional Railway Manager, R K Gupta here today said the meeting would discuss the Gonda issue and evolve a mechanism to prevent repeat of such incidents.
Senior railway officials, security commissioners, RPF officials, ADG GRP and senior home department officials of UP government will attend the meeting.
''Railways have taken the issue very seriously and will coordinate with UP to stop such things in future,'' the DRM claimed.
Last week, GRP sleuths -- who were robbing passengers of Janseva Express at Gonda railway station -- had assaulted the RPF and North-Eastern Railway officials when they resisted the crime.
GRP personnel allegedly trained guns at the RPF and railway officials, which forced the latter to flee the scene.
Later, the railways lodged an FIR against GRP men and registered strong protest with the state government.
The UP Police has already suspended three GRP men involved in the incident.
The DRM said closed circuit televisions(CCTVs) would be installed in Lucknow and Varanasi railway stations to monitor the activities in platforms, while assistance would be taken from the RPF for security on board trains.
