No sudden jerks in India's Nepal policy: Congress

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) The Congress Party today sought to underplay the reported statement of former foreign minister K Natwar Singh on India's role in the crisis in the Himalayan Kingdom, saying that there was no ''sudden jerks'' in our Nepal policy.

''We strongly support the government's foreign policy which is marked by continuity. But, Mr Natwar Singh may have his own views," AICC Spokesman Abishek Manu Singhvi told newspersons when his attention was drawn to Mr Singh's reported statement describing the moves of of the Indian government during the recent developments in Nepal as a ''flip flop.'' He said the Congress fully supported the foreign policy of the government. ''The Party does so because the policy is consistent and continuous,'' he added.

Dr Singh said the Government always atood for and called for a multi-party democracy in Nepal. ''The policy is marked by continuity and there has been no sudden jerks with regard to Nepal,'' Mr Singhvi noted.

He said the India government had been moving on the same direction over a period of time. However, it was best left to the government to fine tune and adjust to the exingencies of the situation in a fast evolving scenario.
