Maken lauds DDA, CEMDE work in reviving Aravali flora and fauna
New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister Ajay Maken today lauded the work of the DDA and Centre for Environmental Management of Degraded Ecosystem (CEMDE) in protecting and reviving the flora and fauna found in Aravalis which had become extinct in Delhi.
''The conditions being created at the park in the form of Orchiderium, Fernery, Butterfly Park, Poly House and other plants for the development and conservation of extinct and near extinct species are appreciable,'' Mr Maken said after visiting the Aravali Biodiversity Park here, which is being developed by the DDA in association with Delhi University's CEMDE.
He said 'prosopis juliflora (kikar) which has invaded indigenous communities needs to be weeded out in phases and replaced by new species.
Mr Maken expressed the hope that the biodiversity park when developed fully, will provide first hand information and will be a natural educative laboratory for future generations.
''I hope it will also bring children nearer to nature,'' he added.
