IITM to establish a research centre in BHEL, Tiruchirapalli

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 24 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai will establish a research centre at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) campus here.

A BHEL press release said the Centre will facilitate collaboration between IITM and BHEL to undertake research projects in the areas of design of boilers, manufacturing, metallurgical engineeering, mechanical engineering, structural design, Information Technology (IT) and other relevant areas of mutual interest.

As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between IITM and BHEL, the company will help IITM in establishing the research centre at BHEL by providing necessary funds. Infrastructure and facilities, besides making available its existing research facilities and laboratories. IITM will select research scholars (M.S and PH.D), whom will carry out major part of their research work in IITM research centre at BHEL.

The second MOU between BHEL and IITM will pave way for starting two new courses on energy engineering and welding engineering from the academic year 2006-07.
