Centre calls meeting on Apr 27 on reservation issue in AIIMS
New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) The Centre today informed the Supreme Court that it has called a meeting of all the states on April 27 to chalk out a strategy regarding reservation of seats for SC/ST candidates and for admission to Post Graduate medical science courses in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
A division bench, headed by Justice K G Balakrishnan, adjourned the hearing of the case till April 28 with directions that 10 per cent of the seats in each subject would be kept vacant for admission to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students.
Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium had told the court that all the seats in the most sought-after courses have already been occupied by students on a merit basis, but later changed his stance saying 10 per cent of the seats for students in each subject will be kept in the states as well as a the Centre.
Second counselling for admission to about 3000 seats in PG and medical science courses will end on May 4.
