Yemeni throws grenade during argument; kills one
SANAA, Apr 23 (Reuters) A Yemeni man today lobbed a hand grenade during an argument in a crowded market in Sanaa, killing at least one person and wounding 16, officials said.
Witnesses said ambulances had rushed some 22 people to hospital after the blast, which occurred in a market selling qat, a stimulant leaf popular among Yemenis.
The Yemeni government is trying to crack down on unlicensed arms, which remain plentiful more than a decade after the end of the civil war. But government control over many areas of the mountainous, impoverished country remains weak, leaving the law in the hands of tribal chiefs.
