Vasan to take up Cauvery with Cong leadership

Coimbatore, Apr 23: Congress Leader and Union Minister for Programme Implementation and Statistics G K Vasan has promised to convey the Tamil Nadu farmers' concerns to the party leadership in the wake of the split verdict by Cauvery Disputes Tribunal to form an expert panel to study the crop pattern and water requirements of the four riparian states.

Speaking to UNI here last night, Mr Vasan said the party was with the farmers and would protect their interests. He also expressed regret over the delay in delivering the final verdict on the issue.

On Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's claim that Union Ministers from Tamil Nadu were doing little for the state, Mr Vasan pointed to the Centre sanctioning schemes worth Rs 27,000 crore, making Tami Nadu the largest recipient of the Central funds.
