UP DGP directs cops to put 7,000 wanted criminals behind bars
Kanpur, Apr 23 (UNI) Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, Bua Singh today directed the state police to put the criminals on the run behind bars within a month or face music for dereliction of duty.
Mr Singh, who assessed the law and order situation with SSP and SPs of the Kanpur Zone here, told newspersons that senior police personnel would be held responsible if the criminals on the run were not put behind bars.
However, expressing his satisfaction on the month-long comprehensive drive against the criminals, he said during the first three days of the drive, which took off on April 20, the respone was ''very good and encouraging.'' The police chiefs of all the districts were directed to start the drive against 7,000 criminals who figured on the wanted list.
Mr Singh also appreciated the role of Kanpur Zone police which had almost eliminated dacoits from the Chambal ravine. Barring Jagjivan Parihar, most of the active gangs were elimited and efforts were on to eliminte Parihar also.
He assured the police force to provide all kind of assistance including jobs to their dependents in case of any casuality during the month-long drive. The government has paid Rs 10 lakh and trying to provide jobs to the dependents of an Inspecter of the Badun police station, who died while chasing a criminal recently.
Mr Singh said adequate security was being maintained on the Indo-Nepal border in view of the pro-democracy movement in the Himalyan kingdom.
On the Maoist activities along the Indo-Nepal border, Mr Singh said at least five such extremists were arrested from the bordering districts.
The SSB and state police were on their toes to check the entry of any anti-socials elements, he said adding that huge trucks were stranded on the Indo-Nepal border due to turmoil in the neighbouring country. The stranded truckers will be provided full protection, he said.
