UMMK to contest on 'Lotus' symbol

Pondicherry, Apr 23 (UNI) The Uzhappali Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (UMMK) will contest the May three and eight Assembly elections in Pondicherry on the "Lotus" symbol of its ally, the BJP.

UMMK General Secretary Ganesh Babu told newspersons here today the BJP had granted permission for using its symbol.

The UMMK is contesting Bahour and Neravi constituencies in alliance with the BJP.

Meanwhile, the Jananayaga Munnetra Kazhagam (JMK) had decided to extend support to the Congress-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Pondicherry.

Party Convenor Azhaganandam told a press conference the JMK had decided to support and work for the DPA candidates in eight constituencies.
