Shiv, Jeev improve to finish tied 26th, Fdez-Castano wins Asian Open
Shanghai, Apr 23 (UNI) Shiv Kapur came up with his best show of the week with a four-under 68, while Jeev Milkha Singh also improved with a two-under 70, but the duo could not prevent an over-par finish at the 1.8 million-dollar BMW Asian Open here today.
The Indians finished tied 26th in the European Tour co-sanctioned event won by Spaniard Gonzalo Fdez-Castano (281), who beat Swede Henrik Stenson in the playoff after both finished seven-under.
Kapur (289) started well with back-to-back birdies in the first two holes before dropping a shot in the fourth but after a couple of level-par shots, he recovered to gain two shots on the seventh and the ninth.
The Asian Rookie of the Year had an error-free back-nine with a birdie on the 12th to improve upon his earlier over-par rounds and rise to the tied 26th spot on the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing finish for Jeev (289), who won the Volvo China Open last week. The double-bogey on the ninth hole marred his front-nine but he struck three birdies on his backward journey to have an under-par final round. But his poor show in the previous three rounds meant that the Indian finished with a one-over aggregate.
