Sacchar committee holds talks with Mah govt
Mumbai, Apr 23 (UNI) The high-level Rajendra Sacchar committee instituted by the Centre to look into socio-economic upliftment of the Muslim community, held discussions with the Maharashtra Government.
The State government team, led by Textiles Minister Satish Chaturvedi, told the committee members that the State government was committed to all-round development of the largest minority group.
Animal Husbandary Minister Anees Ahmed, Minister of State for Labour Baba Siddique, Education Minister Vasant Purke, Chief Secretary D K Shankaran and principal secretaries of various other departments were present at the meeting, which took place at the state government owned Sahaydri guest house in south Mumbai yesterday.
Mr Chaturvedi said the Maulana Azad Development Corporation was helping the community to set up trade and businesses of their own.
He informed the committee that the criteria of annual income of beneficiary families had been increased from Rs 40,000 to Rs one lakh. Similarly, the aid given to minority education institutions has been increased from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs six lakh.
Mr Ahmed said a Haj House is being constructed at Nagpur and air travel is being facilitated for Haj travellers from Nagpur. Five members of the Sacchar committee apart from Justice Sacchar were present on the occasion.
