Reporter arrested in extortion case
Akola, Maharashtra, Apr 23 (UNI) A reporter with an Amrawati-based Marathi daily was arrested here today for allegedly demanding and accepting extortion money from a Bhivanpura resident.
Ravi Govind Ingle (28) allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from Abdul Majid Abdul Aziz, a resident of Bhivanpura in neighbouring Washim district. Ingle allegedly threatened to expose an illegal construction undertaken by the complainant in his newspaper lest the latter paid him the amount.
The complainant agreed to pay Rs 8,000 but at the same time lodged a complaint with the police who laid a trap and allegedly caught Ingle red-handed while accepting the sum.
