Pravin Mahajan remanded to police custody
Mumbai, Apr 23: A local court today remanded Pravin Mahajan, charged with attempted murder of his brother and BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan, in police custody till April 29.
The accused, who shot at and critically wounded Mr Mahajan yesterday, had surrendered to the police soon after the incident.
Pravin, who had surrendered to the Worli police immediately after pumping three bullets into Mr Mahajan, was produced before the Bhoiwada Metropolitan court a short while ago. The metropolitan magistrate, after listening to the arguments of the prosecution and defence, sent Pravin to police custody for a week.
Public prosecutors E B Damal and Neeta Pasarkar, in their remand application, sought the custodial interrogation of the accused, saying the police are yet to locate the taxi and the driver who had driven Pravin from Thane to the Worli residence of Pramod Mahajan.
Defence lawyer A N Rajurkar, while not opposing the remand application, however, argued that the prosecution has not made any reasonable ground for seeking his custodial interrogation.
