Poll ringtones: Indpendent offers colour mobiles
Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Apr 23 (UNI) Not to be outplayed by major political parties' announcement of freebies to attract voters, an independent candidate has promised distribution of free colour cellphone and goat to each of the households if he is elected to the Assembly.
Durai Ramachandran, a little-known film comedian who is contesting Vridhdhachalam seat as an independent against film hero and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijaykanth, has created a ripple among the voters with his two novel schemes -- 'Tamil Annai Thittam' and 'Tamil Selvam Thittam.' In addition to the offer of free cellphones, he has also promised free calls to the people in his constituency under the 'Common Users Group' (CUG) scheme.
In an attractive announcement for youths, he said free laptops would be distributed to students of Computer Science and efforts will be made to set up an IT park in the area.
Assuring placement in multi-national companies for unemployed youths at Vridhdhachalam, he appealed to them to leave their resume' with him.
Taking a dig at both the dravidian parties, which had promised cheap price and free rice, Ramachandran categorically stated he would not make the voters in Vridhdhachalam "beggars" by distributing free rice.
