ONGC reimbursement liability: SC names arbitrators
New Delhi, Apr 23: The Supreme Court has appointed former chief justice of India V N Khare and retired Supreme Court judge Sujata V Manohar as arbitrators to decide the dispute regarding reimbursement liability of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) if any, towards Panama based SEDCO, forex international company who had paid customs duty on the import of RIGF for off shore drilling.
A bench headed by Mr Justice S H Kapadia issued the directions vide order dated April 20, on an appeal of SEDCO demanding reimbursement of Rs. 26,67,94,320 paid by the appellant company as Customs duty for importing equipment for off shore drilling.
The total cost of the imported equipment was 13 million dollars.
ONGC has denied its liability of reimbursement.
