Knit wear exports up
Tirupur, Apr 23 (UNI) The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) Chairman A Sakthivel has said knitwear exports had touched about Rs 8,000 Crore during 2005-06.
Addressing a press conference here, he said exports will grow by 33 per cent compared to previous year. The garment exports will be seven billion US Dollars in 2005-06.
The exports to European countries will grow by 13 per cent, he said, adding quota free regime has helped the growth of exports.
He said to increase the exports further, the India Knit Fair Association (IKFA) along with Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) and Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) is organising a three-day Fair for spring and summer wear from May 10 next.
He said Tirupur was one of the few Indian towns which benefitted from globalisation and economic reforms. The export of knitwear products from this town was always on the rise every year.
He said for the benefit of the Knitwear trade, it was proposed to construct a Convention Centre here. The Union Commerce Ministry has sanctioned Rs 50 crore.
