Kerala files review petition on mullah periyar dam

New Delhi, Apr 23 (UNI) Kerala government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against its earlier decision, permitting state of Tamil Nadu to raise the height of periyar dam to 142 feet.

Kerala, which has been opposing the construction of dam, has prayed to the Supreme Court to review its decision of march 8, 2006 on the grounds that the issue of maintaining proper ecological balance in the area has been ignored.

Kerala has also contended that the dam being 107 years old, its safety and durability are also suspected. Tamil Nadu had earlier filed a suit against Kerala seeking to declare an act passed by Kerala state assembly against raising the height of the controversial dam.
