Grenade attack at the house of NC leader in Bhaderwah

Bhaderwah Apr 23 (UNI) Barely 12 hours before the Bhaderwah by-polls, the house of National Conference (NC) leader Mohammed Aslam Goni's came under granade attack this evening.

The grenade missed the target and went off at the backyard of the house. There was no loss of life and property in the incident.

Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is contesting from here to become a member of the assembly.

Mr Goni, the former Advocate General of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, was the NC candidate in the last assembly election held in 2002. He was defeated by Congress candidate Mohammed Sharief Niaz, who recently resigned and vacated the seat as power minister for Mr Azad to facilitate his entry to the state assembly.

Mr Mohammed Ashraf Goni, brother of Aslam, told UNI that they were apprehending attack as there were reports of militants taking shelter in the town for the last ten days.

Eventhough the police were informed about the reports they did not take any action, he added.
