Good Sensation Dhoni to motivate slum children
Ranchi, Apr 23 (UNI) After terrifying the opponents with his swashbuckling batting, Team India's new sensation Mahendra Singh Dhoni will now take on the noble cause of motivating slum dwellers of his home town Ranchi to send their children to join school under the government-sponsered ''Education For All Programme.'' Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar told newsmen here last night that Dhoni had given him consent to go to the slum areas of this capital town on any one day this week.
'' Dhoni can be very effective because he has become a role model for children. If he goes to them and inspires them to join school, they will take it to heart. This will certainly increase the efficacy of the education for all programmes here, where the school dropout rate is quite high at 43 per cent, '' he asserted.
Mr Kumar said, '' We will also take services of famous actor Farukh Seikh, but that is sponsored by UNICEF, while Dhoni has agreed for campaign at the request of district administration. We have decided to utilise Dhoni's charisma in slum areas only because at such places we can find a large number of non-school going children within a short time. '' The Jharkhand government was conducting a vigorous campaign throughout the state from April 17 to bring the 3.88 lakh non- school going children between 6 to 14 years back to school under the education for all programme. The campaing will end on April 29.
