Goa to release funds to Maharashtra for Tilari project

Panaji, Apr 23 (UNI) Goa has pledged to release funds in phases to Maharashtra for speedy completion of the multi-crore rupee joint irrigation project in bordering Tilari that will benefit both the states.

This was informed by Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane while presiding over a function at Aronda in Sawantwadi taluka of Maharashtra where Maharashtra PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal laid foundation stone for a Rs 22-crore Aronda-Kiranpani bridge today. Mr Rane said more such joint projects would go a long way in development of the states in a big way.

He noted that Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district had the potential of being developed as a tourist destination like Goa which receives about 22 lakh domestic and foreign tourists each year as against its 13.4 lakh population.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bhujbal said the Maharashtra government plans to develop Sindhudurg as a tourist destination. The proposed bridge, whose foundation stone was laid today, is scheduled to be completed in two years.
