CVC recovers more than 8 crore in penalties in first 3 months

New Delhi, Apr 23 (UNI) The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), in the first three months of 2006, has ordered penalties against 475 of the 2,147 cases referred to it and collected Rs 8.38 crore from them.

It also advised prosecution in 73 cases while sanctioning prosecution against 43, according to the CVC.

While the Commission ordered closure of 541 cases besides clearance to another 78, minor penalties were imposed in 236 cases and major penalties imposed in another 196 cases.

In March alone, the Commission disposed of 495 cases and recovered 2.81 crore from penalties.

Although sanctions for prosecutions were issued against eight officers, the CVC advised prosecution against five officers, which included two from the Ministry of Labour and one each from Railways, BSNL and Environment and Forests.

While minor penalties were imposed on 76 officials, the Commission advised minor penalty proceedings against 88 people and imposition of minor penalty in 61 cases, besides ordering closure of charges in 211 cases and giving vigilance clearance in 29 other cases.
