Cong blames Mulayam govt for failing to solve power crisis

Kanpur, Apr 23 (UNI) The Congress today blamed the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh for failing to solve deepening power crisis in the state.

Congress Rajya Sabha member of Rajiv Shukla told newspersons here that the present government in UP had failed to solve the power crisis. He further claimed that not even a single unit of power was generated in the state during the tenure of the Mulayam Singh government.

The UP government had also failed to clear dues of NTPC worth several thousand crores, but blamed the Centre for not helping it to tide over the power crisis, he added.

''After the end of Congress rule in UP in 1989, all the Non-Congress governments stopped developmental activities and existing power stations were allowed to become sick in absence of proper maintainance,'' he added.

Terming as unfounded, ruling Samjawadi Party allegations about the BJP and BSP helping the Congress in the Rae Bareli bypoll, Mr Shukla said that on the contrary the SP had helped BJP not only in UP, but in other states including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Bihar.
