3 cops seriously hurt in landmine explosion

Visakhapatnam, Apr 23 (UNI) Three policemen were seriously injured in a landmine blast triggered by suspected CPI (Maoist) Naxals near Kumkumpudi Village of G K Veedi Mandal, about 175 km from here, early today.

The Naxals were targeting a special police party which was conducting combing operations in the forests.

Superintendent of Police V V Srinivasa Rao said the injured policemen were airlifted to a corporate hospital in the city.

Police were on high alert in this mandal, known for the strong presence of the Maoists, as they had definite information that the insurgents were planning a major assault on the police this week.
