Twelve bodies recovered as bus fell in river Chitra

Dhaka, Apr 22 (UNI) Twelve dead bodies were recovered from river Chitra in south-western Narail district of Bangladesh.

A Narail-bound bus carrying a bridal party from Gopalganj plunged into the river, with some 45 people aboard, while embarking on a ferry last afternoon.

Five bodies, were recovered last night, while seven more were taken out by 1000 hours local time today, official sources said.

Meanwhile, Navy divers, firefighters, policemen and paramilitary BDR personnel from nearby regions joined the rescue operation, sources said.

15-20 of the wedding guests, including bridegroom Dipak Biswas, either swam ashore or were rescued by locals.

The bus was pulled up from 40 feet down the water in the morning.
