Sonia to campaign for DPA in TN, Pondy on Apr 25

Chennai, Apr 22 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi would pay a day's visit on April 25 to Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Pondicherry to campaign for the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the May eight assembly elections.

Talking to newspersons here, TNCC President M Krishnasamy said Ms Gandhi would address two election meetings in Tamil Nadu and one in Pondicheery, before leaving for Delhi on the same day.

According to a tentative programme, Ms Gandhi, on her arrival here from Kozhikode at 0930 hrs on April 25, would leave for Pondicherry by a helicopter and return by noon to proceed to Madurai by a special aircraft.

After addressing a poll meeting in the temple city, she would return here and address a meeting at the island grounds, before emplaning for Delhi on the night of April 25, Mr Krishnasamy said.

Ms Gandhi is likely to visit the state again for her second leg of campaign, probaly during the first week of May, he said adding the dates are yet to be finalised. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is also expected to visit the state during the first week of May, the Congress leader said.

''We have also requested Mr Rahul Gandhi and Ms Priyanka Gandhi to take part in the campaign,'' he added.
