Peaceful polling in West Bengal, Kerala
New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) Polling remained peaceful in second phase of elections in West Bengal and first phase in Kerala with no untoward incidents being reported, the Election Commission (EC) said today.
An estimated 76 per cent of voters cast their ballot in West Bengal while the percentage was 68 in Kerala, said deputy election commissioners R. Bhattacharya and K. Balakrishnan.
The figures are likely to go up marginally, they said while addressing a joint press conference here. There were no complaints of booth capturing from any areas in the states.
Polling was held in 66 constituencies of West Bengal with 12,299 booths, 348 candidates and 1.12 crore voters.
In Kerela, polling was held in 59 constituencies with 8,641 booths, 409 candidates and 84.28 lakh voters.
In some polling stations of both states, Braille machines were used for the blind.
