Patel demands restarting poll process in Budhni

Bhopal, Apr 22 (UNI) Former Union Minister Prahlad Patel today demanded the Election Commission (EC) to restart the process of holding assembly bypoll in Budhni constituency in Madhya Pradesh in view of complaints of violation of the model code of conduct.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is seeking entry into the assembly from Budhni seat.

A staunch supporter of expelled BJP leader Uma Bharti, Mr Patel claimed that the EC took the decision to postpone the bypoll from April 24 to May 3 on the basis of his complaints.

He alleged that Mr Chouhan had spent more money than the prescribed limit for publicity. He said complaints had been lodged in this regard along with proof.

Mr Patel said power cuts are a routine feature in the state.

However, Budhni had been kept free from it. After the matter was brought before the EC, power cuts had also started in the area, he added.

He demanded strict action against guilty officers.

Mr Patel alleged that the model code was still being violated.

He will lodge a complaint in this regard before the EC.
