Parliamentarians to discuss population and development

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) Senior Parliamentarians from several Asian countries will gather here for a two-day dialogue from April 23 on "Population and Development" with a special thrust on population in the globalising society.

Focussing on Asia and the Pacific, these Asian leaders will be participating in the 22nd Parliamentarians' meet being organised by the Japan-based Asian Population and Development Association (APDA) and the Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IAPPD).

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony on April 23 while Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will deliver her special address.

Globalisation and its impact in different sectors will prominently figure in the discussions.

"Issues like Environment, Food Security, Human Rights, Education, Bio-diversity Conservation would be discussed by experts in respective fields against the context of globalisation," sources at the IAPPD said here today.
