Ownership and management should be separated: Chidambaram

Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today asserted that ownership and management of business firms should be separated for increasing profits and efficiency.

Participating in a 'Leadership roundtable', organised by Satyam to share and create perspectives on 'building world class institutions' here, he said a lot of research was going on in family run business, which was being practised by many companies in the country. Family run business companies were performimg very well in the country.

Stating that public institutions must perform their duty and deliver services to the poeple as they wished, the Minister said the police department was being given the last priority, which was important in terms of security and policing. Metro-policing was different from district policing, he noted.

He said the delivery system in education, health and other allied actvities must be improved by introducing reforms in the sectors.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said his government had reduced power tariff to the industrial sector to the lowest in the country, to promote industrial development.

Stating that infrastructure was 'absolutely' necessary to inviting global investments, he said the Congress-ruling state government was encouraging local industries to play a role globally.
