Nomination papers of 224 candidates in order

Pondicherry, Apr 22(UNI) The nomination papers of 224 candidates for the May eight second phase assembly elections in the Union Territory of Pondicherry were found in order after scrutiny.

The nomination papers of as many as 169 candidates, mostly Indepedents were rejected for various reasons.

Though, the scrutiny of nominations were over yesterday, the election department did not release the list of candidate in a constituency till this evening, following a dispute in names.

Out of 179 candidates, 45 were in Karaikal region.

Twenty one constituencies in Pondicherry region and six in Karaikal goes to polls on May eight, while Mahe, Palloor and Yanam constituencies, would go to polls in the first phase on May three.
