Mercury shoots to 38 degrees celsius

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) Continuing its upwards climb, the mercury in the Capital today shot up to 38 degrees celsius, heralding a return to scorching weather conditions in the coming days.

It was a significant rise from yesterday's 34.8 degrees.

With the minimum temperature, too, staying at yesterday's level of 20.0, it seems all too evident that hot summer climes are on a return to the capital.

Though the minimum temperature was two degrees below the normal level, weathermen say the rise in mercury since the last two days is nevertheless indicative of a further rise in temperature in the coming days, which would eventually lead to a return to scorching weather conditions.

The rising trend in mercury, coming after ten days of relatively cool weather which saw the temperatures plummetting to a low of 32 degrees celsius earlier this week, is due to the dissipation of the upper air cyclonic movement that had contributed to pleasant weather over the last ten days.

The upper air cyclonic storm, originating from Rajasthan, had moved away from the Capital since yesterday, setting off a series of dry winds over the capital.

The weather office has predicted a clear sky and further rise in mercury tomorrow.

At the same time, the weather office said the minimum temperature on Tuesday could touch a high of 23 Degrees celsius on April 26.
