Kolkata experiences heavy showers
Kolkata, Apr 22 (UNI) For the first time in six months Kolkata and its surrounding areas this evening received heavy showers accompanied by hail storm that sent the temperatures plummeting appreciably.
Polling was disrupted in many areas that went for voting in the second phase polls in four districts of Howrah, Hoogly, East Midinipur and Nadia.
In Nadia polling was disrupted for sometime due to heavy rains.
People came out once the rain stopped and began voting which continued well after the scheduled time. Reports also said many trees were uprooted by the storm.
Similar reports poured in from Srirampur in Hoogly district.
The rain was preceded by storm, sending people to scurry for cover.
Met office sources said the maximum temperature in Kolkata was 35.5 degrees celsius while the minimum temperature recorded was 25.1 degrees celsius.
