Srinagar, Apr 22 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has issued a show cause notice to its Legislator Mohammad Shafi Bhat for working against party interests.
A Congress spokesman said the PCC President, Peerzada Mohd Syed has issued the notice to Mr Bhat for campaigning against coalition candidates in three assembly constituencies in Baramulla district where polling will take place on Monday.
He said the MLA was also asked to explain why he shared platform with NC patron and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah during an election meeting recently against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, a partner in the government.
The state Congress President has sought an explaination from Mr Bhat within a week's time, he said.
Mr Bhat has won Amira Kadal assembly seat on Congress ticket after he was denied ticket by the National Conference in 2002 elections.
Yesterday the PDP suspended its MLA and former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir and also expelled two senior leaders for campaigning against party candidates in Sangrama assembly constituency.
Mr Mir, who has won from Tangmarg assembly seat on a PDP ticket, has challenged the party high command for fielding Javid Ahmad Baigh, nephew of Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baigh.
Mr Mir openly supported Independent candidate Shoaib Lone, son of late PDP leader and former minister Ghulam Nabi Lone who was killed in a fidayeen attack at Tulsibagh last year.
