Jabrail Khan, cook of Don Anees remanded to 5-day custody

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) A city court today remanded Mohammad Jabrail Khan to five-day police custody who was arrested by Delhi police on April 11 in connection with cheating, forgery as well as offence under the provisions of Passport Act.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau, remanded Khan to police custody till April 26 for further interrogation and intensive investigation.

''During the first 15 days, the custody could be changed from judicial to police and vice-versa provided the remand of the accused is necessary for fair and complete investigation,'' Mrs Lau said in her order.

She also said in her order that, ''the police remand was essential for the search and identification of the co-accused Ibrahim and Raju who were stated to be the main agents responsible for sending Khan to Karachi.'' The medical examination of the accused has to be done immediately. The accused was allowed to keep medicines with him during the police remand. Mrs Lau also directed the Investigating officer to ensure proper medical treatment if there would be any exigency in his health.

Counsel for the accused Asghar Khan argued that the disclosure statement recorded by the police was fabricated. The investigating officer had taken the accused on police remand and the accused had surrendered before the court, hence he should not be allowed to take him again on police remand.

Khan was arrested by the Delhi Police from IGI airport on April 11, after he arrived here from Karachi while travelling allegedly with forged stamps on the passport.

He told the interrogators that the global terrorist and mastermind of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts Dawood Ibrahim used to visit his brother Anees in Karachi.

He came back to India after Anees had thrown him out of job due to medical reasons, the sources said.

Khan, a native of Bahriach in Uttar Pradesh, was residing in Karachi for several years and was employed by Anees.

He was arrested under sections 420 (Cheating), 468 (Forgery for the purpose of Cheating), 471 (Using Forged documents as Genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 12 of Passport Act.
