Iraq's parliament convenes with new PM candidate

Baghdad, Apr 22: Iraq's parliament convened today after the ruling Shi'ite Alliance named Jawad al-Maliki as its new candidate for prime minister.

The posts of speaker of the assembly and the three-man presidential council were expected to be announced, possibly paving the way for the formation of a new government after a four-month deadlock over the prime minister.
