HP to implement Sports Act 2005, says CM
Shimla, Apr 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his government was committed for the implementation of the HP Sports Act 2005 to give renewed momentum to sports activities in the state.
Presiding over the State Youth Board meeting here, he said the provisions of the Act provides for judicious representation to different sport disciplines and their registration under the Act.
Mr Singh said the sports infrastructure was being strengthening in the state by increasing budgetary provisions substantially, adding that a sum of Rs 14.27 crore was being spent on 35 sports projects, besides projects of Rs 15 crore were in various stages of completion.
Sportsperson from Himachal who had brought laurels for the country during the recently concluded Commonwealth Games would be rewarded with cash prizes of Rs five lakh, Rs three lakh and Rs two lakh for winning gold, silver and brozne medals respectively, he said.
The chief minister said the government had also extended three per cent reservation to sportsperson in government jobs and 78 people had been benefited.
Mr Singh called upon the youth of the state to create awareness among the masses about the social vices and help in eradicating corruption from the society.
Youth can be a motivating force to create awareness amongst the people about the social vices, he said.
Calling upon the youth of the state to take on the divisive forces that were bent on dividing people in narrow sectarian lines, he said the youth can be the ambassadors for the emotional integration of the state.
Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur was also present on the occasion.
