Daljit Bittu sent to judicial custody

Barnala, Apr 21 (UNI) After his one-day police remand, Shiromani Khalsa Dal president and ex-militant Daljit Singh Bittu was today sent to judicial custody for five days in a sedition case against him.

Mr Bittu has been booked by the Barnala police under sections 124A and 153A IPC on the charges of sedition in context of his visit to Fatehgarh Chhanna village in Sangrur district where he addressed the farmers, whose land had been occupied by the Trident Group of Industries.

He had also reportedly screened a documentary film 'Mitti Meri Maa' (My Motherland) at the village where the farmers were protesting against the occupation of their land by the Trident Group.

He will now be produced in the court on April 27 for further hearing into the case which has been lodged against him at the Dhanaula police station.

Neary 200 Shiromani Khalsa Dal activists and the local farmers today gathered at the Barnala court complex during the hearing.

Mr Bittu had been whisked away by the Barnala police from his residence in Ludhiana on the night of April 20 and was presented in the Barnala court yesterday where he had been remanded in police custody for a single day.
