Cong must make its stand clear on Narmada issue: Vijaywargiya

Bhopal, Apr 22 (UNI) In the wake of Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's Indore visit, the BJP today demanded the Congress to make its stand clear over the Narmada issue.

In a statement here today, Energy Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya said Mr Singh, who has come to exhort Congress workers to raise their voices over the issue, must clarify whether state Congress units were speaking truth or the central ministers' team, which visited dam-affected areas recently.

Mr Vijaywargiya said Mr Singh should have replied to certain questions put forth by mediapersons, as the whole state wanted to know their answers.

He recalled that during previous Congress regime in Madhya Pradesh, the then Deputy Chief Minister Jamuna Devi, the then state Congress President Radhakishan Malviya and nine legislators had submitted a join memorandum to the then Home Minister L K Advani demanding that the NBA be banned.

The Energy Minister asked Mr Singh whether he will consider complaints received during field visit as truth or form an opinion after discussing the matter with concerned officials.

Mr Vijaywargiya said the report of three central ministers was submitted before the Prime Minister, the review committee and the Supreme Court without seeking answers from concerned officials.

He said Congress workers had no moral right to rake up issue of power shortage, as they were creating obstruction for the Sardar Sarovar Project, which will supply power to the state.
