Combing intensified for naxals in Udupi dist
Udupi, Karnataka, Apr 22 (UNI) Police have intensified combing operations at Hallihole and nearby villages in this district since last night following naxalites issuing a threat to a farmer.
District Superintendent of Police S Urugan told UNI today that according to information received, 12 naxals, including three women, entered the house of the farmer, Gurudatta Chaatra, at Kotugula at Hallihole village yesterday and demanded more compensation to the local tribals with whom Chaatra had a land dispute.
The ultras had on October two last year too barged into Chaatra's house and damaged a car and jeep belonging to him after threatening him over a water dispute with tribals.
However, Chaatra had not yet filed any case with the police regarding yesterday's incident as the extremists have threatened him with dire consequences if he did so, he said.
