CM launches Foundation for promoting Sanskrit

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated the Giridhari Lal Shastri Oriental Education Foundation, an autonomous body, set up to preserve and promote Sanskrit.

''To encourage students to learn Sanskrit, which is a scientific language, it was decided to establish the foundation,'' Ms Dikshit said.

Lauding the role of the Delhi Sanskrit Academy in popularising the language, she said the foundation would function as an Examining Body.

It would also provide affiliation to those 24 Sanskrit Institutions, which are facing crisis of existence after declaration of deemed university status to Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, she added.

The foundation would frame co-curriculum by linking Sanskrit language with professional education.

''It will have courses on Vastu, Jyotish, Archaeology and offer Degrees like Pratham, Poorv Madhyama, Uttar Madhyama, Shastri, Acharya and Shiskha Shastri,'' the Chief Minister said.
