BKU activist commits suicide to teach lesson to commission agents

Barnala, Punjab, Apr 22 (UNI) A Bharti Kisan Union (BKU) activist today committed suicide by consuming poison in a hospital here due to the alleged harassment by a commission agent of Barnala.

According to sources, 55-year-old Balvir Dass, was discovered lying unconcious in the bathroom of a hospital where he was admitted since April 16.

It was on April 16 that he and his son Buta Dass (23) were attacked by some unknown persons at a bus stand while they were waiting for the bus.

Since then Balvir Dass was in Dhanaula hospital and he committed suicide this morning by consuming poison in the bathroom of the hospital.

A suicide note was recovered from his pocket in which he alleged that he was taking this extreme step as he had been facing harassment at the hands of a commission agent, Prem Kumar Goel.

The deceased stated in the note that he had been unloading his crop for the last three years at the shop of Prem. He never paid him price of his crop and whenever he demanded the money for teh yield, the commission agent threatened and harassed him.

He said in his suicide note that Prem would be responsible for his death and should be punished so that in future money lender could dare to harass any farmer.

After post mortem of the deceased, the Barnala police handed over the body to the bereaved family members.

Police has registered a case against Prem and six others under sections 306, 148, 149 of IPC, while no arrest has been made so far, UNI XC PS HS RAI2315
