BKU activist commits suicide

Barnala (Punjab) Apr 22 (UNI) A Bharti Kisan Union activist today committed suicide by consuming poison in a hospital at Dhanaula in Sangrur district due to the alleged harassment by a commission agent.

Balvir Dass (55) was admitted in the hospital following an attack on him and his son by some unknown persons on April 16. Today around 0800 hours, he committed suicide in the bathroom of the hospital.

He was found lying in the bathroom by the sweeper and taken to the Emergency Ward of the hospital but till then he had died.

Police recovered a suicide note from the pocket of the deceased, in which he alleged that he had been unloading his crop for the past three years on the shop of the commission agent in Barnala Grain market, but the latter never paid him the price of his crop.

Whenever he went to get money , the Commission agent threatened him and harassed him on one of the other pretext.

He stated in his suicide note that the commission agent was responsible for his death and should be punished.

In the suicide note, he requested the Bharti Kisan union to start an agitation for the punishment of commission agent so that in future no one from commission agent fraternity dare to harass any farmer.

The dead body was handed over to his relatives after a post mortem examiantion. Police registered a case against the commission agent and six others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. No arrest has been made till the filing of this report. UNI XC VKJ SY HT2020
